12 May 2020 Coronavirus Update in Tamil Nadu

TAMIL NADU: Today 716 new cases in Tamil Nadu in which 510 cases are from Chennai alone. Therefore the total cases in Tamil Nadu turned 8718 where Chennai holds 56% of cases i.e 4882. Never like before, In a single day 8 people died in Tamil Nadu where the total death reached 61 in the state. 4401 suspected individuals are in isolation ward admission and till today 6520 active cases in Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, the recovered rate is 24.50% and the death rate in the state is 0.70%

Districts with 0 cases and less than 10 cases in the last 10 days

TAMIL NADU:  The first case of the COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu was reported on 7 March 2020 from the district of Kancheepuram. The government has announced a lockdown on 25th March. The total number of cases till 31st March was 124. In the starting of April, the cases started to increase due to People who attended Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi. 1,113 cases in Tamil Nadu were linked to the event that took place in Delhi.

After that, the cases in Tamil Nadu started to increase day by day where the state’s capital has the highest cases till date. 51% of the total cases are from Chennai. After the Tablighi Jamaat cluster, Koyambedu Market turned as another biggest hotspot where 1867 positive cases related to the Market till 09 May 2020.

Starting from the month of May, there was a major spike in Tamil Nadu especially in the state’s capital Chennai. In the last 10 days (01 May – 10 May) 4881 total cases recorded in Tamil Nadu where Chennai with the highest cases of 2925 followed by Cuddalore with 367 and Tiruvallur with 287 new cases.

The total cases in Tamil Nadu till 10 May 2020 were 7204 in which Chennai holds the highest cases of around 3839. 1959 cases got discharged and 47 deaths recorded in the state till date. The state has 53 testing labs (37 Govt + 16 Pvt) which are the highest in India. The state testing around 12,000 people every day on average. The total number of tested persons till date was 2, 32,368.

Erode and Sivagangai are the two districts in Tamil Nadu with zero cases in the last 10 days.

Erode once a hotspot with 70 positive COVID-19 patients now has no active coronavirus cases. Also, the district is moving from red to orange zone as it has not reported any positive COVID-19 patients since April 15. Out of 70 cases 69 got recovered and 1 case died during the treatment.

Sivagangai on the other hand with the total cases of 12 has zero cases in the last 10 days. 12 cases got recovered.
